Gottarelli Method

The inferior turbinates are large structures (4-7cm long and 2cm wide) they deviate the air flow and create the first resistance that permits the blood flow to change the air temperature before it arrives to the lungs. They are covered with the mucosa and create a series of folds in order to increase the surface of contact between the nasal cavity and the air, which is heated and humidified.

A nasal septum deviation, other than a tightening of one of the nasal pits, produce a compensatory hypertrophy of the inferior turbinate opposite from the deviation. It’s a mechanism by which nature tries to limit the excess of cold air that passes from the free pit because of the septum deviation.

There are also conditions of valve insufficiency mono or bilateral cause by trauma or incongruous operations that alters air flow, provoking a hypertrophy to compensate and the worsening of breathing, mainly at night when the inferior turbinate fills with blood and obstructs the nasal pit.

Before the MIT, modified inferior turbinoplasty i invented, the cure of this hypertrophy was an unsolved problem. The MIT advantages with the reduction or the resizing of all three anatomic compartments and the reconstruction of tissue continuity through a precise suture, without swabs or bleeding, permitted the definitive cure for thousands of patients.

From the inferior modified turbinoplasty the Gottarelli Method was born, rhinoplasty or rhinoseptoplasty, a methodology that guarantees to encounter in a single operation all the complex situations and disturbances that often afflict the nose and limit its function.

In order to intervene at the inferior turbinate in all its length, it’s necessary to use an “open approach”, meaning a methodology appropriate non only for the MIT but also for meticulous septoplasties, widen the meatus bones and correct meticulously and with high result predictability any anatomical nose alteration. MIT and MG, are, also, cold surgery techniques, without the use of lasers, elettrocautery and radio frequencies that can provoke relapse.
